A brief given by Newham University Hospital to design a supportive and engaging hospital environment for the Thistle Ward which is an older adults ward with a high proportion of dementia patients.
I took into consideration the fact that the majority of the patients at this hospital were from different countries such as UK, Caribbean Islands and various parts of Asia. I was also inspired by the Biophilia hypothesis which suggests that there is an instinctive bond between human beings and other living systems and the use of colours which can affect our mental condition, mood, perception of time, volume shape, space and perspective. As a result I created two patterns that can be used with different background colours as a wall paper. My Design was chosen by Vital Arts and the hospital to be used in the ward.
